It was a magical night for the New Zealand broodmare Tatijana Bromac on Saturday at Albion Park as two of her progeny won feature races on the Stakes-filled card.

Within 90 minutes of star three-year-old filly Aardie B Miki taking the $31,700 South East Oaks, her older sister Aardies Express put her 17th career win on the board by claiming the Group 3 $52,000 Fleur De Lil Ladyship Stakes.

Both are sired by Alabar Bloodstock’s brilliant, young sire Always B Miki and are out of the multiple Group 1 placed Rocknroll Hanover mare Tatijana Bromac.

A third runner, Aardies Flash, a four-year-old brother to Aardie B Miki and Aardies Express, finished seventh in the Group 1 $355,000 The Rising Sun.

The talented trio are all raced by leviathan Toronto owner Mike Tanev, who is breeding from Tatijana Bromac at Robert Famularo’s Dancingonmoonlight Farm, Ohoka in north Canterbury.

Tatijana Bromac was bred and raced by the late Bob McArdle and Sydney enthusiast Lynette Philpott and trained by Mark Purdon.

Lynette said: “Bob was having dinner here one night and he mentioned to me what a great sire Rocknroll Hanover was. I told him that none of my mares were good enough to go to him. Bob said: ‘If you pay the stud fee, I’ll supply the mare’, and that’s how we bred Tatijana Bromac.”

Tatijana Bromac won eight races and was 16 times placed from 38 starts for $215,578 in stakes and was a top racemare in her own right.

Bob and Lynette bred the first five foals – including four fillies – out of Tatijana Bromac and two were successful in Mohs Em Down (1:53.5), a winner of 19 races to date, and Aardies Express (1:48.9), who has numbered the NSW Sibelia Championship and NSW Ladyship Stakes among her 17 victories.

“Bob and I sold Tatijana Bromac when she was carrying Aardies Express,” Lynette said.

Her sixth foal, Aardies Flash (1:51.7) has totted up 10 wins so far and her seventh issue, Aardie B Miki (1:54.9), has won three.

Since producing Aardie B Miki in 2020, Tatijana Bromac has left the yearling colt Aardies Bobby (by Downbytheseaside), a weanling colt by Downbytheseaside and is safely in foal to Captaintreacherous.

All told, Tatijana Bromac’s progeny have won 49 races and a lofty $773,800 in stakes between them.

Tatijana Bromac’s dam, Tandia’s Courage, who was bred in Victoria, won 23 races in Australia and North America and $305,236 and was the Australian 2YO Filly of the Year in 2000. Besides Tatijana Bromac, she was also the dam of the NZ Sales Graduette winner Te Amo Bromac and the Victorian Listed winner Tandia’s Bromac and the second dam of the Group 3 victor Tommy Lincoln and Listed winners in The Falcon, Tenzing Bromac and Tennyson Bromac.

Hoofnote: Aardies Express has a Bettor’s Delight colt entered for next year’s NZB Bloodstock National Yearling sales in Christchurch
