Third time lucky for Suntan in Sires’ Stakes

After going close with two seconds at Addington, Suntan has secured a place in the Magness Benrow 2YO Fillies Sires’ Stakes Championship by making a winning debut at Alexandra Park on Friday night.

Trained by Hayden Cullen and driven by Josh Dickie,  Suntan (Somebeachsomewhere – Paddy Brown)  took out Heat 4 of the series. Previously she’d finished  second to True Fantasy in the third heat at Addington on April 3, and to Play Philly in a qualifier at Addington on Sunday March 7.

Suntan is the fifth horse to make the Championship Final at Auckland on April 30, joining True Fantasy, Play Philly, A Bettor You and  Montana Glory .

Another daughter of Somebeachsomewhere Off N Gone has made the Nevele R Fillies Series Final.

Trained by Robert Dunn Off N Gone (Somebeachsomewhere – Kabet) beat La Rosa and Town Echo at Forbury Park on April 14 to qualify for the Final at Addington on May 14.

A week later the Garrard’s Horse and Hound 2YO Colts and Geldings Sires Stakes’ Final will be held at Addington (Friday May 21).

Major Perry sealed his place in that Final, joining Montana DJ, Franco Mac, Akuta, and Cosmic Major, after winning Heat Two at Cambridge on Thursday April 15.  Montana DJ finished third in the latest heat, after guaranteeing a place in the Final by winning the opening qualifier at Alexandra Park on February 19.
